The DHL Australia 2013 Lions Tour continues to break new ground in Australian sport with another stadium record shattered in Melbourne tonight.
Australian and British & Irish fans have turned out in force at Etihad Stadium to surpass the venue’s attendance record – ironically set 12 years ago when the Qantas Wallabies last played the Lions in Melbourne.
56,771 supporters have come through the gates of Etihad Stadium for the second Test of the three-match series.
The previous record was 56,605, set on Saturday 7 July 2001.
The first Test of the DHL Australia 2013 Lions Tour also produced a ground record crowd for Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, with 52,499 attending the series opener.
The third and final Test of the Tour – another sell out – will be staged at ANZ Stadium in Sydney next Saturday night.
